Listening Blog #3
For this listening blog, I listened to "Tom Rushen Blues" by Charley Patton. I haven't loved a lot of the music we've gone over in this course, but I kind of liked this one. It's pretty difficult to pick up on the words, and at times it almost sounds like it's in a different language. I think it's because of the loudness of the instruments over his voice, the quality of the microphone, and the fact that he isn't super clear with his speech. I certainly have no idea what the song is about, but it has a catchy tune and I enjoyed listening to it. I like the way that Charley Patton harmonizes with the instruments in the background, especially the trumpet. It makes for a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head. It kind of has that slight static noise in the background from the old microphone which gives it a little bit of that vintage feel that a lot of these older songs have. It has a good amount though.
