Listening Blog #3
For this listening blog, I listened to "Tom Rushen Blues" by Charley Patton. I haven't loved a lot of the music we've gone over in this course, but I kind of liked this one. It's pretty difficult to pick up on the words, and at times it almost sounds like it's in a different language. I think it's because of the loudness of the instruments over his voice, the quality of the microphone, and the fact that he isn't super clear with his speech. I certainly have no idea what the song is about, but it has a catchy tune and I enjoyed listening to it. I like the way that Charley Patton harmonizes with the instruments in the background, especially the trumpet. It makes for a catchy tune that gets stuck in your head. It kind of has that slight static noise in the background from the old microphone which gives it a little bit of that vintage feel that a lot of these older songs have. It has a good amount though. It's not too much to where it makes it hard to focus on the song, it's just enough to be able to get that vintage feeling from it without it being a distraction from the actual song.
I love the song Tom Rushen Blues! This is by far one of the best songs that we have listened to in class this year. Although I do agree that the sound audio could have definatly been better, but it does give it that vintage feal.
ReplyDeleteanother thing that I like about this song is that it is sung by Charley Patton. He is truly one of the best artists out there. His style and the way his music flows so freely in harmony is so neat to hear.
