Listening Blog #10

For this week's blog post, I decided to listen to "Lady" by Kenny Rodgers. I had heard most of the other song options and I wanted to listen to something that I hadn't listened to before. I really like it. I really like the background instruments accompanying Kenny Rodgers as he sings with his smooth and powerful voice. I like how the song started out really slowly and gradually built up to the chorus where there are a lot more layers to the song. This slow buildup of intensity makes the song really fun to listen to because it sort of draws the listener into the slowness and then carries them on into the more intense chorus. It also adds a bit of an emphasis onto the chorus that makes you feel it more than if the whole song carried that amount of energy the whole time. After listening to the song a couple more times, I began to pay more attention to the lyrics of the song, whereas at the start I was mostly just paying attention to the instrumentals and the overall mo...

For this week's listening blog post, I decided to listen to Psycho Killer by Talking Heads. At first I didn't really like the songs, but as I listened to it more it started to grow on me. There's something about the singer's voice and the way he matches the instrumental rhythm that just pulls the listener in. The tune of the song is super catchy and it has a steady beat in 4/4 time that has you just tapping your foot along for just about the whole song. I can definitely see why this song got as popular as it did. This is one of the few songs we've gone over in class that I liked enough to add into my spotify library. I like how it has all of the fundamentals of rock n roll but it isn't quite as in your face as a lot of rock n roll music. It's the type of rock that you can put on and just chill out. I really like the fast guitar strumming at the end of the song. It kind of breaks up the rhythm that had been set the whole song prior to the sort of guitar solo...

For this week's listwening blog, i cxhose to listen to Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival. I had heard thiss ong prior to listening to it in class, but only a couple of times. It was just enough to slightly recognize the song. I think my dad might have played it a few times when I was a kid so it kind of gives me a bit of a nostalgic feeling. I added it to my Spotify library and I have been listening to it regularly over the past couple of days and I just love the happy upbeat tune it has. I've lisened to the lyrics a few times and paid attention to them, but I still am not sure exactly what they message of the song is. The singer sings about how he "sees the bad moon rising" and sees trouble on the way. He goes on to say he sees various natural disasters such as hurricanes and lightning coming. It might be a metaphor to an unpromising future. Although I don't understand the message or story behind the song, I do like the tune and beat of the song and...

For this week's blog post, I listened to "Somebody To Love" by Jefferson Airplane. I clicked on the song not thinking I would recognize it, just thinking I would be listening to a new song. It sounded very familiar right off the bat, although I was not sure exactly where I had heard it. After having listened to it a few times now, I realize that a remixed version of this song is a popular sound on TikTok. It's interesting hearing the original for the first time after having only listened to a remixed version before. I enjoy the song, although it feels a bit off without the added musical elements that are in the remixed version. It almost feels like it is missing something. I wonder how my opinion on the song would change if I listened to the original before ever hearing a remixed version. Overall it is a good song, although not something I would listen to regularly. I can certainly see why it was so popular in its time. It has a catchy beat and a steady rhythm that j...
