Listening Blog #5

Listening Blog #5 For this week's listening blog, I chose to listen to "Sh-Boom" by The Chords. This was one of the only songs we have listened to in this class that I had heard prior to taking this class. Overall, I really like this song and the upbeat nature of it. The vocal styles of the singers was fun to listen to, and it even sounded improvisational at times. I also listened to the version of this song performed by The  Crew Cuts, and I have to say the versino performed by The Chords is much better. Maybe it's just because it's the version that I am most familiar with, but I think that it had a much more pleasing sound to it. When we listened to this song in class, I wasn't sure where exactly I had heard the song from, but I knew it sounded familiar. Looking into it a little more, I found out that it is the song played in Disney's ,movie "Cars" when Lightning Mcqueen shows off his display of the fixed neon lights. In my opinion it was the ...

The song I chose to listen to for this week's listening blog was "You Can't Hurry Love"  by The Supremes. I chose this song for no other reason than it had a catchy tune that I liked. It was a song I had heard before, although I'm not sure exactly where from. I listened to the song three times critically, and the first time I just focused on the general feeling of the song. It has a happy tune that makes you want to sing along. The second time listening to the song, I paid more attention to the background instruments. I am not super good at discerning instruments, but there was definitely a piano or keyboard in the background, as well as a little rhythmic metallic sound that sounded like it could have been a cymbal. The third time listening to the song, I paid attention to the background singers. They gave the song good layering and did some occasional harmonizing that sounded really good. Overall, I really liked this song and I enjoyed the catchy tune. I also l...

Listening Blog #4 For this listening blog post, I chose the song "Hey Good Lookin" by Hank Williams. I thought it was a fun song. It has a very catchy rhythm that I noticed playing in the back of my mind after listening to the song. I love the way the instruments come together to make the happy sounding tune that the song  has. I thought it was funny how the first line in the song is, "Hey good lookin', what you got cookin'?" because I have heard those words before but never knew where they came from. Perhaps it was from this song. Because of the tempo and overall upbeat sound of this song, it makes you want to dance to it. Listening to this song I found my foot naturally tapping along to the beat of the song. Overall, I think this was a fun and catchy song. Although it's probably not something I would ever throw into any of my playlists, I can certainly understand why someone would.  "Hey Good Lookin" Hank Williams
